UNIverse

UNIverse is an open source collaboration solution based on Nextcloud that allows you to easily and conveniently:

  • Store, synchronize, and share files.
  • Collaborate on documents (integration of Collabora Online).
  • Make video and audio calls with Talk.

You can also share one or more files and folders on your computer and synchronize them with your UNIverse server. However, you will need a client to do this. For more information, click here.

To help you assess whether UNIverse is right for you, we have created the following overview of the university's systems:

FAQs

How can I share my files with external people?

You can find the relevant information in the section 04-03 Sharing options.

Why can't I open my files locally in the Nextcloud client, even though they are available via the web interface?

The UNIverse client uses the Virtual Files option by default, which means that files are not downloaded directly to the local device. Instead, a connection is established to the files in the cloud, and the content is only downloaded when needed. To change this, click on the three dots in the settings of the synchronized folder and select Disable support for virtual files.

I want to create a shared group folder

First, you need to create a team. Then please contact zid-service@uibk.ac.at.

Is there a maximum amount of data that can be uploaded at one time?

A maximum of 32 GB can be uploaded at the same time.

Where can I find the documents shared with me?

Documents shared with you can be found in the Files section, under Shares. You can find out more about sharing in 04-03 Sharing Options.

Where are my documents?

You can find your documents in the Files section.

I accidentally deleted my files. How can I restore them?

You can find deleted files in the web interface in the Files section under Deleted Files. If you have also permanently deleted the files in this section, they will no longer be available.

I get an error message when logging in to UNIverse

To log in to UNIverse, you need your regular university login details. Please make sure that you log in with your personal account, as it is not possible to log in with functional accounts. If you encounter any problems when entering your details, please contact zid-service@uibk.ac.at.

How can I transfer my files from another cloud (e.g., Fileshare) to UNIverse?

To save files from another cloud in UNIverse, you need to temporarily store them locally on your device and then upload them to UNIverse.

Why can't I open my files locally in the UNIverse client even though they are available via the web interface?

The UNIverse client uses the Virtual Files option by default, which means that files are not downloaded directly to the local device. Instead, a connection is established to the files in the cloud, and the content is only downloaded when needed. To change this, click on the three dots in the settings of the synchronized folder and select Disable support for virtual files.
