Tesla Coil
Description:
A Tesla coil is the name given to a resonant transformer for generating high-frequency alternating voltage. The function is based on the resonance of magnetically loosely coupled oscillating circuits, i.e. L-C elements.
A distinction is made between the primary and secondary side.
The circuit of the primary side consists of a switch, usually a spark-gap, i.e. a spark gap which switches through after reaching the breakdown voltage, a capacitor and a short coil, usually 5 to 15 turns and larger in diameter.
The secondary side, also called the Tesla tower, consists of a long cylindrical coil with several hundred turns and receives inductive oscillations from the primary side.
