J-MDS: jointly learning multimedia data security

The initiative, supported by the EUREGIO Mobility Fund 2019 and the BIT School, has been jointly organised by the Security and Privacy Lab of the University of Innsbruck and the Multimedia Signal Processing and Understanding Lab of the University of Trento.

More than 90 master students from both universities were involved, which have attended the Multimedia Security master courses offered in Innsbruck and Trento by the teaching staff (Prof. Rainer Böhme and Dr. Cecilia Pasquini at UIBK, Prof. Giulia Boato and Mag. Federica Lago at UNITN). After a set of common lectures and practical training sessions on multimedia security problems, students engaged in a team-based competition, where they have faced the practical challenge of developing their own image forensics detector.

After the presentation and technical evaluation of the methodologies developed by the different groups, the winning teams have been announced during the final event in Trento. Two of the three best performing teams are from the University of Innsbruck, and were awarded with the first and third place prizes!
