Вивчення будь-якої мови передбачає знайомство з її культурою, традиціями, історією з врахуванням сучасного стану розвитку країни, мова якої вивчається. Іншими словами, вивчення мови залучає осмислення історико-культурних аспектів для розуміння її функціонування в певному суспільстві. Використання інтернет-мемів у навчанні іноземної мови виявляється надзвичайно ефективним особливо в умовах інформатизації навчання та технологічного підходу до його організації. Поєднання розважального та навчального змісту робить меми потужним навчальним інструментом.
У доповіді обґрунтовується актуальність використання мемів у навчанні іноземних мов, зокрема зосереджується увага на досвіді впровадження інтернет-мемів у процес викладання української мови як іноземної. Наведені приклади завдань демонструють здатність мемів візуалізувати матеріал та сприяти розвитку критичного мислення, а також формуванню лінгвістичної, комунікативної та соціокультурної компетенції студентів. Акцент робиться на історико-культурній інформації, представленій у мемах, та її зв'язку з сучасними подіями в Україні, насамперед війною РФ проти України.
Світлана Підопригора, докторка філологічних наук, професорка, предметон наукового дослідження якої наразі є українські візуальні медіа, зокрема комікси, меми.
До початку війни вона працювала професором у Чорноморському національному університеті імені петра Могили в Миколаєві.
З серпня 2022 по липень 2023 року працювала старшим науковим співробітником і професором у відділі слов'янських мов і літератур в Університеті Інсбрука (Австрія).
В даний час вона проходить наукове стажування за програмою URIS (Ukrainian researchers in Switzerland) у Базельському університеті й працює над дослідженням за темою Ukraine and Its Visual (Self-) Representations in Turbulent Times with a Focus on Comic Cultures.
Ukrainian as a Foreign Language: Exploring Cultural and Historical Aspects Through Memes
Studying any language requires familiarity with the culture, traditions, history, and the current state of the country whose language is being studied. In other words, language learning involves understanding historical and cultural aspects to comprehend its functioning in a particular society. Utilizing internet memes in teaching languages proves highly effective, especially in the digitization of education and a technological approach to its organization. The combination of entertaining and educational content makes memes a powerful educational tool.
The presentation justifies the relevance of using memes in teaching foreign languages, focusing on their incorporation into teaching Ukrainian. Examples of tasks demonstrate the ability of memes to visualize material and contribute to the development of critical thinking, as well as the formation of students' linguistic, communicative, and socio-cultural competence. The emphasis is on the historical and cultural information in memes and their connection to contemporary events in Ukraine, particularly the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine.
Svitlana Pidoprygora, a professor of literary studies specializing in Ukrainian literature and culture, places particular emphasis on exploring Ukrainian visual media, including comics, memes, in her current research.
Before the war, she was a professor at Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University in Mykolaiv.
From August 2022 to July 2023, she worked as a senior researcher and university professor at the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Innsbruck.
Currently, she is an URIS-Fellow (Ukrainian researchers in Switzerland) at the University of Basel, conducting research on Ukraine and Its Visual (Self-) Representations in Turbulent Times with a Focus on Comic Cultures.
