What does the Senate do?
The Senate is one of the three governing bodies of the university and the only one with direct democratic legitimacy. It:
- enacts the statutes of the university (on the proposal of the rectorate)
- gives its approval to the development plan and the organizational plan
- determines the size of the University Council and elects some of its members
- plays a decisive role in the process of electing the rector and, to a limited extent, in appointing the vice rectors
- participates in habilitation and faculty appointment procedures
- issues and amends study curricula
- establishes collegial bodies with and without decision-making powers as well as a working group for equal opportunities
- should – in the opinion of SPAF – comment on all important university policy agendas and collaborate on proposals for solutions
