Stefan Kimeswenger's research is focused on aspects of stellar astrophysics with an emphasis to late stages of stellar evolution and planetary nebula. These objects are the major source of the enrichment of the biological important elements C, N and O in the universe. The targets are observed with various techniques, at ground based observatories, radio interferometers and with infrared satellites. The data are compared with simulated models, computed by combining radiation transfer and hydrodynamic codes. The latter are used for predictions for other wavelengths, which then are used for the next observations. The key research theme is the interplay of observations and simulations.
