Dates: 14.-15.09.2016
Organisation: Monika Dannerer, Aivars Glaznieks,
Peter Mauser, Claudia Riehl, Stephanie Risse

The Linguistic Colloquium Language, Region, Identity aims at fostering scientific exchanges within the Alpine region and beyond. It is specifically targeted at young researchers (PhD students and post‐ docs). The colloquia intend to offer a forum for discussing current and recently concluded projects. The yearly editions are organised around three keywords: language, region and identity. The different languages and varieties spoken as well as the places where we were born, grew up and live are interacting factors that influence our identity. In linguistic interaction and communication these factors become important means of identification and of inclusion/exclusion.

Every workshop of the Linguistic Colloquium has a specific topic of interest. The 3rd edition will be held as a pre‐conference workshop for the international conference “Forms of Multilingualism in Secondary and Tertiary Education” at the University of Innsbruck. Therefore, the workshop will pick up the topic of the conference and put it in the context of language, region and identity. We welcome that deal with all kind of communication in secondary and tertiary education and its implications for the individual and the society, especially those that focus on either internal or external multilingualism. Different languages and varieties as well as the diversity of dialects in the Alpine region will be the key aspects of the workshop. However, the workshop is also open to related topics.
