Navajo spindles are very long supported spindles with lengths ranging from 30" to up to 36" and are commonly used by the Navajo and Pueblo Indian nations.
The spinner sits on the floor or in a chair with the bottom part of the shaft resting on the ground and the top part on the thigh and the spindle is rolled up the thigh.

Wooden Navajo-spindle from New Mexico. Length: 36,4", whorl diameter: 4,3". This spindle is approximately 25 to 45 years old and comes from a Navajo family that used it for many years.
