The Alpine Research Centre Obergurgl operates the LTER site Obergurgl, comprising weather stations and monitoring sites along an elevation gradient. LTER (Long-Term Ecosystem Research) is a worldwide network of hundreds of monitoring- and research sites with the main focus on measuring and processing ecological long-term data and providing it for researchers and general public.

The Alpine Research Centre offers logistical, financial and infrastructural support of research projects conducted by the University of Innsbruck and their cooperation partners in the region of Obergurgl / the inner Ötztal. We are open to all scientific disciplines.
The Alpine Research Centre lies about 1930 m a.s.l. at the edge of the village Obergurgl (municipality of Sölden). The field sites of the research projects are mainly situated in the Rotmoos valley, at the Schönwieskopf, at the Hohe Mut, at the rock glacier Äußeres Hochebenkar and at the Hintereisferner, a glacier close to the village Vent. The Beilstein is the main site for archaeological research.
