Experimental Astroparticle- and Particle Physics

Space-based Gamma-Ray Astrophysics

Research in space-based gamma-ray astrophysics focusses on signatures of high-energy particle interactions in astrophysical environments and their phenomenological interpretation. Incoming data from the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Observatory are used to probe Cosmic Ray acceleration and propagation in a variety of astrophysical observations.

Ground-based Gamma-Ray Astrophysics

Research in ground-based gamma-ray astro- & astroparticle physics relies on active data taking with the High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.) and anticipation of its successor instrument, the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA). Probing particle acceleration in astrophyscal environments up the 1015 eV by means of observing VHE g-rays aims towards addressing the origin of galactic Cosmic Rays.

Accelerator-based Particle Physics

Reserach in accelerator-based particle physics in connected to the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. Detailed studies of the properties and decays of the B meson familiy, and in particular rare B decays are in the focus of the activities in experimental particle physics.
