Georgia, Kazbegi, spindle
Spindle with wooden spindle whorl and iron hook from a village near Kazbeki (Caucasus Mountains). Length: 13.89"; Whorl diameter: 1.77". First half 20th century. Kazbeki or Kazbegi (today: Stepantsminda ) is a small mountain town in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region of north-eastern Georgia. The town is located along the banks of the Thergi River, 157 kilometers (98 mi) to the north of Tbilisi at an elevation of 1,740 meters (5,710 feet) a. s. l.
