Where and when to apply:

Students can apply either for a whole academic year or for one term. In both cases the application deadline is December 13, 2019.

The academic year is divided into:

  • Fall Term: early September – early December
  • Winter Term: early January – early April

The applicants admitted to the final selection will then be asked to fill in the official application form of the University of Alberta. The final decision of acceptance or non-acceptance of a student is taken by the Liaison Officer of the University of Alberta.

Exchange Student Fees and Financial Matters

Exchange students will not be required to pay any tuition. Nevertheless all visiting exchange students have to pay the application fee and have to participate in the University of Alberta Health Insurance Plan and pay the required premiums.

Exchange Students Housing

Guaranteed housing is available for students who are applying to the University of Alberta for a full year exchange as long as they apply by the April 30th guaranteed housing deadline. There are also off-campus opportunities available. If students wish to set up their own accommodations, they can use the Student’s Union’s housing registry to find rental properties available around the city.

Advice

International students applying for Undergraduate or Graduate Studies have to be registered in at least three courses (9 credits) per term and may take a maximum of five courses (15 credits) per term.

There are currently some restrictions of study areas: Exchange students in such fields as Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Criminology, Computer Engineering or Business can only take courses if they are enrolled.

Report

The University of Innsbruck expects exchange students to submit a report (2 pages minimum) on their stay at the University of Alberta within one month after their return to Innsbruck.
