Aptitude and Interest Test – Aims of the Admission Procedure

A University Teacher Accreditation Programme prepares students for the demanding, but also very interesting and varied profession as teacher. The partners in the network LEHRERiNNENBILDUNG – WEST offer a Teacher Accreditation Programme for Secondary Schools. It is divided into a 4-year Bachelor’s degree programme and a 2-years Master’s degree programme. Having successfully completed these study programmes, graduates are entitled to teach children and young people  from the 5th grade to leaving certificate stage at new secondary schools (Neue Mittelschule,) as well as at secondary academic schools (AHS) and secondary technical and vocational schools (BHS).

Studies on the professional biographies of teachers show that the student’s individual decision to become a teacher should be carefully considered before the start of a study programme. The experience gained from at least 12 years at school is for most students a completely different one and put into perspective, once they have to actively face a class instead of primarily participating in lessons as a student. Aptitude and interest in the profession of a teacher at schools is examined with a two stage Aptitude and Interest Test, including a so-called “self-discovery test” (online self-assessment) and a computer based admission test. Within the network LEHRERiNNENBILDUNG – WEST the computer based admission test is provided by the PH Tirol (in Innsbruck) and the PH Vorarlberg (in Feldkirch). The Aptitude and Interest Test is offered only once per year.

For the following subjects, additional examinations need to be completed: physical education, music, instrumental music, arts. You have to apply in person for these examinations at the following institutions (University of Innsbruck for Physical Education, University Mozarteum for Music, Instrumental Music and Arts).
