Project Description:

The project The Expanded Types of O.M. Ungers is a research on architectural organisation of space. It tests a hypothesis that a collection of known spatial arrangements holds potential to generate new types of spaces. The project employs the techniques of Artificial Intelligence to explore topological qualities of space and thereby to reveal its unseen variations. The research takes as a base seven different spatial types, presented by O.M. Ungers in his book Sieben Variationen des Raumes uber die Sieben Leuchter der Baukunst von John Ruskin: the shell, the labyrinth, the gallery, the octagon, the poché, the object, enfilade. The presented material shows an attempt to expand this collection of spatial organisations.
