em. Univ.-Prof. DDr. Gerhard LEIBOLD
Gerhard Leibold, born 1945, studied philosophy and catholic theology at the Universities of Bonn, Bochum, Innsbruck and Munich. 1971 he finished his doctorate in christian philosophy, 1980 his habilitation in the same subject, followed by the doctorate in catholic theology in 1985.
He worked as an academic assistant from 1970 to 1980 at the Department of Christian Philosophy at the Faculty of Catholic Theology, University of Innsbruck and as a research fellow at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Munich from 1981 to 1995. Since 1995 he was full professor of christian philosophy at the University of Innsbruck until his retirement in 2012. Gerhard Leibold was married and had three children. He deceased on 26th January 2024.
His research interests were philosophy and theology of Middle Ages as well as epistemology and history of philosophy of the ancient world and the Middle Ages. Leibold was also concerned with the maintenance of Wittgenstein's philosophy.
