FILM The Take von Avi Lewis In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Leokino Innsbruck The Take is a Canadian documentary film released in 2004 by the wife and husband team of Naomi Klein and Avi Lewis. It tells the story of workers in Buenos Aires, Argentina who reclaim control of a closed Forja auto plant where they once worked and turn it into a worker cooperative, or as could be argued, a working model of anarcho-syndicalism, libertarian socialism, or left communism. mehr... SYMPOSIUM The Art of Cinema - Canada versus the United States Canada and the US are marked by collaborative partnerships as well as competition in creating their own cinematic traditions. On the one hand, they have a long history of cross-border collaborations (service productions, co-venture arrangements for the production of feature films). Yet with current opportunities for filmmakers across Canada and the U.S. new media production ecologies emerge that lay the foundation for innovative filmmaking practices (digital technologies) that will redefine the existing collaborations. On the other hand, there is diversification in the sense that Canada has succeeded in developing her own cinematic traditions. Co-productions with international partners have contributed to the growth of Canadian cinema for many decades. In addition, government support allowed for the creation of a unique Canadian cinema (Egoyan, Arcand, Rozema, Mehta, Polley). In this oeuvre of Canada's independent films, a clear distinction from US cinema becomes visible with regard to style, themes and narratives. Datum: 29. - 30.

Nun wird das neue Album "Every Child a Daughter, Every Moon a Sun" in Europa veröffentlicht. GASTVORTRAG Wanderings of a Mountain Guide: The Letters of Conrad Kain, 1906-1933 Zac Robinson (University of Alberta) In 1906, Conrad Kain (1884-1934), a mountain guide from Lower Austria, left Europe for an odyssey of adventure and climbing that took him around the world, ultimately to Canada. Few of his generation or class went as far, or as high, to embrace, as Andreas Maurer famously put it, "where the clouds can go." This talk examines this remarkable life, as well as Kain's literary aspirations, through a collection of private letters written by Kain to an early client from Reichenau an der Rax, Amelie Malek (1871-1941), who became a dear life-long friend. |

BUCHPRÄSENTATION canadiana oenipontana 11 Responsibility to Protect.

Dezember 2012, 19.20 Uhr |
