Refund of the tuition fee in the event of gainful employment

As of 1 March 2019 working students who are required to pay a tuition fee due to exceeding the planned duration of their studies, may be reimbursed for the fee under certain conditions.

The corresponding application for the 2018/2019 winter semester can be made via LFU:online as of 1 March 2019. Applications for the 2019 summer semester are possible as of 1 October 2019.

The reimbursement directive, which has been adopted for the academic year of 2018/2019, stipulates the following framework conditions:

As in the past, tuition fees for students from Austria, from EEA countries and equivalent persons are only due when the standard period of study and two tolerance semesters are exceeded.

The tuition fee may be REFUNDED under the following conditions:

  • the double regular study time of the study programme or part of the study programme may not be exceeded
  • taxable annual income in the calendar year of 2018 between 6.135.70 Euros and 20,000 Euros gross (proof by income tax assessment, annual payslip of the employer or data transfer via finanzonline.bmf.gv.at)
  • proof of successful studying corresponding to 16 ECTS-Credits in the academic year of 2017/18
  • for the first application 120 ECTS-Credits must have been passed for BA-programmes and 80 ECTS-Credits for MA-programmes – for Diploma Programmes 2/3 of the respective part of the study programme
