Permafrost

Permafrost

The upper Rofental is known to have discontinuous permafrost. A limited range of measurements has been undertaken in the area to examine the extent and properties of the permafrost areas.

Rock glacier inventories:

Rock glaciers in the Rofental are included in the Tirolean Rock Glacier inventory

Key publications for rock glacier inventories:

Permafrost measurements:

Additional remotely sensed, geophysical and thermal investigations of permafrost have been carried out in the region - particularly on Rofenberg.

Much of the permafrost work in the region was done in the context of the Climate change consequences for the cryosphere (C4AUSTRIA) project, and further results and details of data collected are available in the project Final Report.
