Research Objectives
Tyrolean regional history - understood as a regional history that pursues research questions in the region, but places them in continuous comparison with the larger spaces and discourses - is to be the central content of the interdisciplinary research center "Regional History European Region Tyrol". In doing so, the understanding of regional history, specifically of the province of Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino (Autonomous Region Trentino-Alto Adige/South Tyrol) as well as the areas of Cortina d'Ampezzo and Buchenstein, which are today outside of it, is to be established in its entire breadth and temporal extent as part of a modern regional history.
For the research center it is important in an overriding sense to illuminate the standpoints of regional history research in the 21st century. Not least, the challenges of global history and the rejection of national historiography make it necessary to determine where we stand. The establishment of the research center enables a better illumination of a paradigm shift from the nationalistically influenced older regional history to the new pluralistic and transnational regional history research.
The goals of the research center are primarily interdisciplinary and multilingual cooperation and the possibility of scientific exchange on topics of modern regional history of Tyrol as well as research-guided teaching at the University of Innsbruck. The center is intended to create a common level, visible through a homepage, joint publications, congresses, lecture series, newsletters, etc., which will also serve to be able to make comparisons with other regions.
