Research Objectives

The Center for European Integration Innsbruck strives to pool and to intensify the research activities in the field of European Union law conducted at the law faculty of the University of Innsbruck. Synergy effects are thus achieved by means of targeted cooperation that is intended to be further consolidated and expanded. Currently, the research project "Der Grundrechtschutz in der EU nach Lissabon. Neuerungen im europäischen Grundrechtsschutz am Beispiel Österreich“ is in the process of being completed; an additional research project concerning the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice and its effects on the national law of the member states is in planning. Complementarily, the cooperation within the faculty, involving several areas of the law, should be further extended to other faculties of the University of Innsbruck as well as to other Universities (economics, political sciences, history). The interdisciplinary conception brings about different research and methodological approaches that are believed to result in transdisciplinary surplus value. One interdisciplinary research project has already reached the implementation stage; 50 authors, among them legal scholars, economists and political scientists, are conducting research concerning the implications of 20 years of Austria´s EU membership from different perspectives. Additionally, the cooperation with national as well as international partner institutions such as ECSA Austria, the University of Salzburg, the Vienna University of Economics and Business, the University of Bolzano, the University of Trento and the European Academy Bolzano should be continued, intensified and extended to other institutions.
