Research Objectives
The Center for European Integration strives to join and to foster the research activities conducted at the Law Faculty of the University of Innsbruck in the field of European Union law. The aim is to achieve synergy effects through focused collaboration. Currently, the research project "Der Grundrechtschutz in der EU nach Lissabon. Neuerungen im europäischen Grundrechtsschutz am Beispiel Österreich“ is in the process of being com-pleted; an additional research project concerning the Area of Freedom, Security and Jus-tice and its effects on the national law of the member states is planned. Moreover, a conference series, the “Innsbrucker Gespräche zum Europäischen und Internationalen Recht“, is planned to start in October 2018. Renowned scholars, practitioners and experts will be invited to the University of Innsbruck for debates on current issues in EU Law and Public International Law.
In addition, the cooperation, which currently extends to the Faculty of Law, will be ex-tended to other faculties of the University of Innsbruck as well as to other Universities (economics, political sciences, history). The interdisciplinary exchange on substantive and methodological issues is expected to be beneficial for all the disciplines involved. A first interdisciplinary project has already been completed. 50 authors, including legal scholars, economists and political scientists, examined the implications of 20 years of Austrian EU membership from different perspectives. Furthermore, the cooperation with national as well as international partner institutions such as ECSA Austria, the University of Salzburg, the Vienna University of Economics and Business, the University of Bolzano, the University of Trento and the European Academy Bolzano will be further strengthened and extended to other institutions.
