Aims

Being situated in the “heart of the Alps”, research and education on topics revolving around the Alpine Space represent a unique feature of the LFU Innsbruck. From the pre-alpine to the nival zone, mountain areas offer a unique diversity in terms of habitats and biota inhabiting these within short horizontal distances. The structure and functioning of these ecosystems are under increasing pressure by changes in land use and climate, which in many mountain regions of the world proceed at higher speed compared to low elevations. Predicting the consequences of these changes in efforts to mitigate or adapt to the resulting consequences requires a thorough understanding of the processes and their abiotic, biotic and anthropogenic drivers, which is only possible through a strong inter- and multidisciplinary collaboration.

The DP Alpine Biology and Global Change intends to provide a fruitful multi-disciplinary environment for educational training of excellent national and international PhD students in the field of Alpine Biology and Global Change with international quality assurance standards. The DP Alpine Biology and Global Change forms an outstanding platform for multi-disciplinary exchange between PhDs and their supervising researchers and affiliated Post Docs. It will provide an opportunity for early career scientists to present research, and network with their peers in a supportive and inspiring Environment.
