Iran, Qashqai women spinning and plying
Fīrūzābād, Fars province - Qashqai women spinning (A) and plying (B) yarn.
Different spindles are used for each purpose. The woman plying is operating two spindles simultaneously. The spindle for spinning has four arms similar to Turkish spindles, while the spindles used for plying are similar to Turkish center-whorl spindles (C) that serve the same purpose.
