Santons and textile production

ABTlogo_abt

A santon (Provençal "santoun" = little saint) are hand-painted terracotta nativity scene figurines from the Provence, the larger ones covered with fabric dresses. In addition to the Holy Family and the three wise men most santon figurines represent various characters from Provençal village life. Here we are interested only in those that have to do with the production and care of textiles.

All santons shown on this page have been made by the santonnier (maker of santons) Simon Jouglas and are about 30 cm  (11.8") tall.
