New global cave monitoring website launched

UIBK researchers revamp this global network hub

The new Cave Monitoring website represents a platform in order to improve and coordinate research activities in the fields of cave meteorology, karst and speleothem science, and subterranean ecology.

The idea of such a global database of cave sites where environmental monitoring has been carried out for at least one year was born at the 2nd International Workshop of Cave Monitoring in Innsbruck, Austria (2012). An initial version of such a website was programmed by Simon Mischel and was in operation for a few years. Over the past few months, UIBK researchers  Gina Moseley and Christoph Spötl made a major effort to set up a new-look, easy-to-use and updateable version, and recently announced this relaunch to the scientific community.
