Research Objectives

Medical law has been one important area of research at the Innsbruck law faculty for decades already. Since 2002, it has been the topic of regular classes. The Eesearch Centre on Medical and Health Law was founded in order to bring together the ongoing activities in various disciplines of the law in the area of medical and health law and to provide a better platform for interdisciplinary work. This shall not only intensify the cooperation between the various institutes of the law faculty, but also with institutions of other faculties and universities (in particular the Medical University of Innsbruck and the UMIT Private University for Health Sciences). The research centre shall facilitate in particular the organisation of individual and joint research projects, publications and conferences.

By creating the Research Centre on Medical and Health Law, existing resources and activities shall be made visible both internally and to the outside world. It shall also ensure that this important and multi-faceted area at the interface of law and health sciences will continue to be targeted by faculty members in the future, which in turn will promote our law faculty as an eminent player in this field. Scholars interested in medical and health law shall be made aware of the potential this research centre can offer and make it an attractive place to turn to for future projects. The concurrent establishment of a doctoral programme in this field shall invite young graduates to participate in this platform.
