The students of the Master’s Degree Programme in Art Science deepen their knowledge about art history practices and methods and the development of art of all periods and genres.
Studying how theories are connected is the basis for developing complex problem solving skills and critically investigating the topic in a transdisciplinary context.

Graduates possess highly specialised knowledge in the field of art science and its theory science and practical aspects. They are able to demonstrate solutions to problems, innovative approaches and critical reflection in terms of scientific issues and their application with regard to the awareness of the development of the individual in the social context.
The skills provided in the bachelor's programme are consolidated and deepened in the Master's Programme Art Sciences by in-depth knowledge in the development of art (in all eras and genres, including their historical environment, the circumstances of origin, functions etc.) on the one hand and diverse methodology of art history (history and theory of art science) as well as history of art in practice on the other hand.
The master's programme is a qualification for occupational fields in science (universities, research institutions etc.) and in application-oriented areas (museums, expositions, preservation of historical monuments etc.), art and culture, education, the media sector as well as politics and business.

Neuer Vorsitzender des SOG-Beirats
Das Stadt- und Ortsbildschutzgesetz (SOG) schützt das baukulturelle Erbe in Tirol. Vor kurzem wurde Lukas Madersbacher vom Institut für Kunstgeschichte einstimmig zum neuen Vorsitzenden des Sachverständigenbeirats des Stadt- und Ortsbildschutzes gewählt. Neue stellvertretende Vorsitzende ist Diana Ortner, Leiterin der Abteilung Bodenordnung des Landes Tirol.
Himmlische Höhen
Auf Bergen wie dem Fujiyama, Kailash, Olymp, Sinai, Athos oder dem Mont Saint Michel verorten Menschen unterschiedlicher Länder, Religionen und Kulturen Heiliges. Noch irdisch aber dem Himmel zugewandt übt die Mächtigkeit der Berge schon seit jeher eine große Faszination aus.

Die Corona-Maßnahmen sind auch an der Preisverleihung der zwölften Ausgabe von historia.scribere am 15. Juni 2020 nicht spurlos vorübergegangen: Die Online-Zeitschrift der Institute für Alte Geschichte und Altorientalistik, Geschichtswissenschaften und Europäische Ethnologie sowie Zeitgeschichte wurde heuer online vorgestellt.
Die Kunst des Kaisers
Eine Sonderausstellung auf Schloss Tirol ist Kaiser Maximilian als aktivem Gestalter von Kunstprojekten gewidmet. Die Ausstellung basiert auf einem Forschungsprojekt, das in Kooperation des Instituts für Kunstgeschichte mit dem Südtiroler Landesmuseum für Kultur- und Landesgeschichte Schloss Tirol entwickelt wurde.
