study & more

During the course of their studies, many students experience phases in which their motivation wanes, they feel overwhelmed and doubts arise.
There can be many reasons for this: Perhaps the course content does not meet expectations, career prospects are unclear, learning is difficult or contact with lecturers and fellow students is difficult.

Studying is rarely a straightforward process - ups and downs are part of it. It is often possible to pull oneself out of a motivational slump and continue with the study programme.
But what if dissatisfaction persists, learning and attending courses becomes increasingly stressful or you even feel that you are in the wrong programme and in the wrong place?
What if the thought of changing or dropping out of your degree programme becomes increasingly strong?

The Central Student Advisory Service can help you gainclarity about your situation and plan the next steps.

Typical topics:

I imagined studying differently.
I don't enjoy my degree programme.
I'm not making the progress I would like to.
Studying seems much easier for others than it does for me.
I feel overwhelmed or out of place.
I'm finding it difficult to make connections at university.
I don't know what to do next - change degree programme or drop out?

It often helps to talk to a neutral person, sort out your thoughts and develop new perspectives. We will inform you about the next steps and other support services within and outside the university.

You can reach us at: studienberatung@uibk.ac.at or +43512 507 32050

Further tasks of the Student Advisory Service

The Student Advisory Service has a broad network and is actively involved in various working groups and network meetings within and outside the University of Innsbruck.

The continuous exchange with internal and external partners enables us to keep a constant eye on relevant service and support offers as well as current developments in the counselling and higher education landscape. We use this knowledge in a targeted manner to provide prospective and current students with the best possible support.

In addition, it is important to us to make current challenges and the needs of the target groups visible in the various network activities, to think along with further developments and, if necessary, to derive new fields of action.

Our tasks also include the coordination and realisation of external appearances of the University of Innsbruck at education fairs in Austria and abroad as well as participation in various events such as the Long Night of Research or various education and action days.

We also organise various information and orientation events for prospective students and students of the University of Innsbruck.

These include the regularly organised formats:

  • Online sessions Studying at the University of Innsbruck
  • Start of studies info session
  • Campus tour at the Innrain campus

This includes the general brochure "Studying at the University of Innsbruck", coordinated faculty folders and sedcards for the individual degree programmes at Bachelor's and Master's level.

The textual and visual composition between sedcards and landing pages is coordinated by Sabine Fischler.
For larger orders of information material, employees of the University of Innsbruck are welcome to contact us by e-mail at studienberatung@uibk.ac.at.

In addition, the team at the Central Student Advisory Service has in-depth knowledge of the needs of prospective and current students as well as proven strategies for reaching target groups. We have extensive experience in the planning and implementation of measures in the transition from school to university as well as in the conception and realisation of target group-appropriate offers for prospective students on the subject of study orientation and students.

We are happy to share this knowledge and provide support on request.
