Donnerstag, 09.11.2023, 12.00 Uhr; Seminarraum 40406 (Slawistik, Geiwi-Turm, 4. Stock, Innrain 52d, Innsbruck)

Vortrag in ukrainischer Sprache mit englischer Verdolmetschung durch Nataliia Sorokina

Between 1922 and 1930 in Ukraine, VUFKU (The All-Ukrainian Photo Cinema Administration) became synonymous with cinema. During the lecture, Alona Penzii will discuss the pivotal moments of creative and production collaboration at the VUFKU film studio, as well as the international and cross-art influences on Ukrainian cinema throughout the period of VUFKU's activity. The history of VUFKU remains one of the most successful modernization projects of Ukrainian culture and one of the cultural highlights of the intense post-revolution atmosphere of the 1920s.

Alona Penzii is a researcher at the Dovzhenko Centre, film critic and cultural manager. Since 2018, she has been working at the Dovzhenko Centre, where she focuses on the history of Ukrainian non-fiction film, in particular animation. She has organized retrospectives of Ukrainian animation at international and Ukrainian venues (ANIMATOR, The Cinémathèque Française, StopTrik, LINOLEUM). She co-curated the Future and Frontline Geographies film programs at the Dnipro Center for Contemporary Culture (DCCC) and Kyiv Biennial 2023.
