32-030 Course element Video

Overview

Once the learning resource Video (see HelpCard 32-020) has been created, you can insert it into your course with the course element Video.

Please note: To use a video in your course, its status can be set to either Published or Preparation (see HelpCard 10-080). The access option Private can be used, as well.

Important Steps

  1. Open your course via Authoring.
  2. Click onto Administration and then onto Course editor. The Course editor opens up.
  3. Choose Insert course elements in the upper left-hand corner and under Knowledge Transfer the course element Video. The Course element has been added to the course structure and can (if necessary) be moved to a different place via Drag&Drop. Alternatively it is possible to add course elements with the Quick-Add function in the yellow-lined menu on top of the course: Insert the name of the course element into the Quick-Add bar and push the Enter button.
  4. Fill in the title shown in the course structure under Title in the tab Title and description and, if desired, fill in the Description. Click onto Insert additional information to add Objectives, instructions or instructions for the coach. In Addition to this, you can Set a link for this course element by clicking onto the blue text and copying the predefined link. Save your changes.
  5. In the tabs Visibility and Access or Learning path you can, if desired, regulate the visibility and the access to the course elements:
    • If your course is a conventional course, you will find more detailed information in HelpCard 10-030.
    • If your course is a learning path course, you will find more detailed information in Helpcard 10-031.  Additionally, as Completion criterion you will find the option Video watched to end (95%).
  6. In the tab Layout you can change the layout of course elements. You can add background images to course elements or change the font colour. How to do this you will find in HelpCard 10-033.
  7. Select the learning content in the tab Video and click onto the button Select or import Video. A new window opens up.
  8. You can now view a list of all your videos. You also have the option of importing a new video or add a video link (for more detailed information see HelpCard 32-020). The window closes automatically and the video has been selected. If necessary, the video can be replaced at any point.
  9. The video has now been inserted and you can select between the following options in the tab Video:
    • Video comments: Course members can leave comments under the video.
    • Video rating: Course members can rate the video using stars.
    • Video autoplay: The video will automatically play when the course element is clicked on.
    • Restrict fast forwarding on first watch: With this option you can limit the fast forwarding of the video in the video navigation.  Once this option has been activated, the fast forwarding will be restricted to the parts of the video that the course members have already watched. Fast forwarding is only possible up until the point that the viewers last stopped watching the video at. In Learning path courses, how far the viewers watched will be saved as their progress in the course element and be shown in the Learning path tool. Should viewers click onto the course element again and not have watched the video until the end yet, their progress will be shown in a pop-up window and they can either Resume playing the video or Play from the start.
    • Show video description: You can create a description for the video which will then be shown to course members above the video.
  10. Click onto the red X in the upper right-hand corner to close the Course editor. To publish these changes, choose the option Yes, automatically (for further information about the Publishing of course contents see HelpCard 10-020). The course view has been adjusted to include any changes made.
