Different research perspectives (e.g. cultural, political, social, economic) are considered in the investigation of all topics.

Graduates possess highly specialised knowledge in the humanities and their methods. They are able to apply their knowledge in the field of the humanities and many other occupational fields by independently formulate and substantiate scientific arguments and to find innovative solutions to problems.
The Master's Programme History offers broadened and consolidated knowledge of historical categories, key data and relations in their temporal and spatial diversity and in controversial discussion from different research perspectives (i.e. cultural, political, social, economic etc.) fostering an understanding of different cultures in past and present, allowing an objective and analytical approach to current problems of the present, without any prejudice if possible.
It conveys skills in subject-specific research and work with different methods as well as orientation skills in historiography. Graduates are able to analytically and synthetically process different issues and questions and to present them appropriately orally and in writing.
Vocational preparation for the relevant field of science (research as well as activities in archives, documentations, collections and museums), in relevant areas of adult education and continuing vocational training, media and cultural work, public service, administration, politics and policy advice as well as non-governmental, supranational and international organisations.

Ancient Worlds (Master)
The Master's programme in Ancient Worlds deals with the Mediterranean world and the Near East from the beginnings of writing to late antiquity and offers the opportunity for specialized study in the fields of Ancient History, Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Greek Studies, Latin Studies, Classical Archaeology, and Near Eastern Archaeology.
Archaeological Studies (Master)
Archaeology is the study of the physical evidence of humans and society over time. An objective reconstruction of past realities is based on the investigation and analysis of archaeological records in the form of soil records and artifacts.
In the Master’s degree programme the students may choose a focus in the individual archaeological disciplines.
Educational Sciences (Master)
The goal of the Master’s Degree Programme in Educational Sciences is to deepen the students’ knowledge in the field of education sciences.
Each student may choose to focus theoretically, methodologically and practically on a specific topic within education sciences, for example general education science, gender studies, psychoanalysis, migration studies, etc.
European Ethnology (Master)
The students of this Master’s degree programme gain competencies in the cultural analysis of life styles, every day life practices and complex socio-cultural processes.
They also learn to understand the historical dimensions of contemporary phenomena and discourses, to deconstruct popular identity concepts and their instrumentalisation in media and politics and to present academic findings to the broader public.
Gender, Culture and Social Change (Master)
The interfaculty Master's programme Gender, Culture and Social Change analyses gender as a hierarchising structural category in close connection with the categories of ethnicity and class in post-national and -colonial constellations. Students acquire interdisciplinary academic and career-oriented competences.
German Philology (Master)
The students of this Masters’s degree programme acquire in-depth theoretical and methodological knowledge in the field of German philology and may focus on specific areas in this field of study. They are able to develop and follow innovative theoretical concepts and research approaches by applying their comprehensive specialised knowledge.
