Criteria for the determination of equivalence:
Admission to the master's degree programme may also be possible if a student has completed a bachelor's degree in a relevant related field. As part of the determination of equivalence, the following core areas of the completed bachelor's degree programme will be assessed:
- 5 ECTS-Credits: Methods of Data Analysis
- 5 ECTS-Credits: Social and Economic Sciences
Supplementary examinations prescribed to compensate for substantial subject-related differences must be taken by the end of the second semester of the master's degree programme.
Recommended Course Sequence
The exemplary course sequence given below is recommended for full-time students beginning their study programme in the winter semester. The table shows one possible course sequence for the bachelor's programme and is not compulsory. Delays resulting from repeated examinations are not taken into account.
The standard duration of the study programme is 4 semesters or 120 ECTS-Credits, whereby according to the Universities Act of 2002, a workload of 1,500 (real) hours per academic year must be fulfilled, corresponding to 60 ECTS-Credits (one ECTS-Credit is equivalent to a workload of 25 hours).
The Entry Level Course Management is primarily aimed at first-year students who have not completed a relevant bachelor’s degree in economics. Participation is recommended if the fundamentals of business administration have not yet been studied or if it has been too long ago. This introductory course should:
- provide an introduction or refresher to the fundamentals of business administration, with the content of this course focusing on teaching only those concepts that are required in this master's programme.
- provide the opportunity to apply the basics to case studies and to consolidate the important concepts in discussions with fellow students and the course instructor.
- make it possible to compare one’s own expectations with regard to the chosen study programme to the requirements.
The Entry Level Course Economics is primarily aimed at first-year students who have not completed a relevant bachelor’s degree in economics. Participation is recommended if the fundamentals of economics have not yet been studied or if it has been too long ago. This introductory course should:
- provide an introduction or refresher to the fundamentals of economics and an insight into the fundamental methods used in economics,
- support students early on to deal with important political problems of our society: climate change, inequality, wealth creation or innovation,
- provide the opportunity to develop analytical skills with data and to understand, reason and formulate views on important issues facing our society in discussions with fellow students and the course instructor,
- make it possible to compare one's own expectations with regard to the chosen study programme with the requirements.
The basic literature discussed is the textbook “Economy, Society and Public Policy” for the introduction to economics. “Doing Economics” is additional textbook, which contains date-based case studies that can be worked on with Excel or R. All case studies offer students the opportunity to gain practical experience with real data. Both textbooks are accessible at www.core-econ.org (open access). You are welcome to read it before the course begins.

Qualification Profile and Skills
Graduates have subject-specific and content-related skills
- to analyse structures and processes in regions and destinations,
- to understand the role of the individual stakeholders and classify their interaction.
On this basis, they have the ability to define strategic goals in cooperation with the stakeholders and to start and control the necessary processes during implementation.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Graduates are able
- to independently acquire new scientific findings from regional and tourism research, assess them and apply them in practice.
- to involve stakeholders with divergent goals in strategic development processes and moderate between the opposing positions.
- to analyse actual situations at company, regional and national level and thus assess the respective development potential.
- to create organisational, technical and financial preconditions for the implementation of strategies and also to manage complex implementation processes operationally.
Future Prospects: Occupational Profiles and Career Opportunities
Graduates are well prepared for a high-level position in the management of tourist companies, in corporate organisations, in interest groups and consulting firms. Of course there are also fields of work in the public sector (regional management, spatial planning).
