41-011 Configure SEB in eExams

Overview

By adjusting the configurations, you can, for example, allow special Internet pages in the SEB for research purposes. If you need assistance or have questions, please contact us at eexams@uibk.ac.at.

Important Steps

  1. Go to eExams and open your exam course.
  2. In your exam course, click Administration and select Assessment management from the drop-down menu.
  3. If you defined an assessment mode when creating the exam course, there is already an exam setting in the overview. Click Edit next to the desired exam setting. If you have not yet created an exam setting, click Create exam setting. For a newly created setting, you must first specify a Title, Start and End of the exam mode. Then click Save
  4. Click the Access tab and in the Participants section, click Group participants only.
  5. Click on Select groups. A new window opens.
  6. Select the appropriate group. Click Apply to close the window.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Click on the Safe Exam Browser tab and select Use Safe Exam Browser.
  9. Click on Configure SEB in OpenOlat. You can now customize all configurations.
  10. Click on Save.

Configurations in detail

Downloadable configuration file: Please note: If you set the option to No, you must provide the configuration file to the participants before starting the exam mode. Participants must then start the SEB using the configuration file.

If the exam mode is started and participants either do not log in with the SEB or log in with an incorrect configuration file, a popup appears with a warning message. If the option is set to Yes, an additional button to download the configuration file will appear in the popup. By clicking on the button to download the configuration file, the SEB is reconfigured to your settings and the participants can start the test after logging in again.

Allow the exit of SEB: If set to Yes, it is possible to exit the SEB at any time and an Exit button appears in the lower right corner. You can also use Ctrl+Q to exit the SEB.

Password for quitting: If set to Yes, a password is prompted when exiting or unlocking the SEB. The SEB is locked when participants switch to another user account and then back again to their own account on the device using Ctrl+Alt+Del.

Link to quit SEB after the exam: After finishing the exam mode, a popup window appears for the participants with a button to exit the exam mode. If you set this option to Yes, the SEB will also be ended. This works even if ending the SEB has not been allowed.

Confirm quitting when using a link: If set to Yes, it will ask for confirmation when clicking on a Quit link.

Enable reload in exam: If set to Yes, this option allows reloading a window using the Reload key or F5.

Browser view mode: This option allows to start the SEB in a specified view mode. We recommend using the browser window mode.

Show SEB task-list: The taskbar is displayed when set to Yes. If the taskbar is not displayed, the indicators for the Exit button, audio control, time, keyboard layout and WLAN selection are also missing.

Show reload button: If set to Yes, a reload button is displayed in the upper left corner. If set to No, it is grayed out and cannot be used.

Show time clock: Time is displayed at the bottom right of the taskbar when set to Yes.

Show keyboard layout: If set to Yes, the keyboard layout is displayed at the bottom right of the taskbar. This option is used to select different layouts (languages).

Show WLAN chooser: Displayed at the bottom right of the taskbar when set to Yes.

Enable audio controls: Displayed at the bottom right of the taskbar when set to Yes. This option is required for exams with video or audio.

Mute on startup: With Audio Control disabled, this option prevents Audio Devices from being used when set to Yes.

Enable spell checking (EN only): This option currently works only in English. If set to Yes, misspelled words are underlined in red.

Allow browser zoom in/out: If set to Yes, you can zoom using Ctrl+ and Ctrl-. An option to zoom is also displayed in the upper right corner of the hamburger menu.

Enable URL filtering: If set to Yes, all websites will be blocked except eExams.

Filter also embedded content: Embedded content such as images on websites are also filtered. Attention: When activated, Office files such as Word, which are used in the task course element, cannot be edited using OnlyOffice without further ado. We generally advise against activation when using the task course element. If you still need this function and OnlyOffice at the same time, please add onlyoffice*.uibk.ac.at to Allowed expressions. However, there may be problems when using plugins in OnlyOffice such as Zotero. Please contact the Service Desk if you need further information.

Expressions allowed and Regex allowed: You can use it to allow access to defined URLs. Multiple URLs must be separated by a line break. You can use simple expressions like https://www.uibk.ac.at/ to allow one web page, but also complicated expressions to allow multiple pages. Before using this option you should either read about regex expressions or the SEB manual and test them before use. A small example of a pitfall: if you only allow https://www.uibk.ac.at/, the page cannot be accessed. Depending on the browser settings, there is either an automatic redirect to https://www.uibk.ac.at/de or https://www.uibk.ac.at/en and therefore you would have to allow these two URLs as well.

Expressions blocked and Regex blocked: These options work the same as Allowed Expressions and Allowed Regex. Although pages are blocked by default, it is possible to block defined subpages of allowed pages.

Config-key of the saved configuration: This key can be used for further processing in the SEB Configuration Tool.

Safe Exam Browser information: The entered text will be displayed when the exam mode is started.
