Welcome to the
Department of Botany and the Botanical Gardens

We perform research on the functional biodiversity of alpine plants at the interface of physiology, ecology  and evolutionary systematics.

We offer basic and post-graduate university-level education in plant sciences as well as general botanical education to the public.

We consult in various areas of applied botany and environmental monitoring.

We maintain the Botanical Garden in Innsbruck and the Alpine Garden on Mt. Patscherkofel, the Herbarium (IB), the culture collection of Algae (ASIB), the Plant Science Education Center and the Pollen Alert Service.
