Strengthening data science: 40 researchers publish position paper
Research involving large amounts of data is becoming increasingly relevant in more and more scientific disciplines. In a position paper, 40 researchers from Germany and Austria—including Justus Piater from the University of Innsbruck—are therefore calling for greater political and scientific commitment to digital and data science.

The 12th inday students took place on November 13, 2025. Nearly 200 interested students visited the labs of our research groups in the afternoon and "Informatik Live" in the evening.

At this year's Conference on Automated Deduction (CADE-30), Aart Middeldorp and Nao Hirokawa were awarded the Thoralf Skolem Award.

New project: FLEXI: Human-centered AI and Digital Twin powered energy system integration for flexibility markets
Ass.-Prof. Dr. Sashko Ristov coordinates the new project FLEXI from the Clean Energy Transition Partnership initiative, co-funded by the European Union. FLEXI brings together eight partners from five EU countries (Austria, Sweden, the Netherlands, Greece, and Turkey) with a total funding of 2 Million EUR.

Kazuya Sase is Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Intelligent Systems at Tohoku Gakuin University, Japan, where he leads the Virtual Reality Lab.

Project internship 2025 in Master Software Engineering
This summer semester, the students in Master's in Software Engineering once again implemented a semester project with a practical task. The topics had different focuses, e.g. in the areas of logistics, public administration and tourism, and the teams of three students were mainly supervised by companies from Tyrol.

Congratulations! Aart Middeldorp head of the research group "Computational Logic" receives the outstanding Herbrand Award for Distinguished Contributions to Automated Reasoning.

Austrian Computer Science Day 2025
The Austrian Computer Science Day (ACSD) 2025, held on June 6 in the Aula of the University was a great success. One of its highlights certainly was Prof. Buchbergers very personal keynote on "Looking Back and Ahead to “Thinking Machines". But also the numerous presentations ranging from young researchers to established professors were a gem. These ranged from inspiring snapshots of ongoing PhD studies to deep, but also entertaining talks by rising stars and established professors from all Computer Science Departments in Austria.

Masarah Paquet-Clouston is a professor of criminology at the Université de Montréal and the director of the EconCrimeLab. With an interdisciplinary background in economics, criminology, and cybersecurity, her research focuses on economic crime facilitated by emerging information technologies.

The University of Innsbruck, the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics, and the Department of Computer Science mourn the loss of Univ.-Prof. Dr Dieter Fensel.

Funding approval from the Tyrolean Young Researchers Fund for Nora Hofer
On 27 January, 21 young scientists from 10 faculties at the University of Innsbruck received a grant from the Tyrolean Young Researchers' Funding Scheme at a ceremony in the ballroom of the Landhaus.

On 19 February 2025, the annual MIP Innsbruck Day took place at the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics (MIP) at the University of Innsbruck. Over 600 pupils from Tyrol, South Tyrol and Vorarlberg experienced an exciting day full of science and discoveries.
