The Master’s Degree Programme in Media is offered within the framework of the interdisciplinary fields of “Media and Literature”. Students enroled in this programme may set their focus individually in the different areas of media linguistics or media philology.

The programme offers diverse practical courses and flexibility through many elective modules.

Graduates possess highly specialised knowledge in the field of theoretical, analytical and practical examination with media communication. They are able to apply their knowledge and competences to solutions to problems by independently formulate and substantiate scientific arguments and to find innovative solutions to problems and apply them in interdisciplinary contexts.

The Master's Programme Media is an interdisciplinary study programme of the Faculty of Language, Literature and Culture. It gives students the opportunity to broaden and consolidate the skills and qualifications acquired during a relevant bachelor's programme by targeted specialisation in the field of media studies.

Its focus is on critical examination of communication processes in the media, and it serves as preparation for working in media-related professions by providing fundamental skills in media practice. The compulsory modules deal with theories and models of media research. Students learn the most important methods and results of empirical media studies and acquire in-depth knowledge in the field of product analysis. Media-practical offers give an insight into the editorial practice of print and online media, television or radio. The elective modules offer specialisation in different subject areas – from the analysis of film to literature mediation and intermediality.

The Master's Programme Media serves as a preparation for conceptual and editorial work in the media and their environment. It provides the basis required for working in print media, radio, TV, film or online media. Other important fields of occupation are Public Relations, cultural mediation, publishing industry and education. At the same time, the Master's Programme in Media serves as a preparation for a scientific career in Media Studies and other disciplines of Humanities and Cultural Sciences.

Archae­o­log­i­cal Stud­ies (Master)

Archaeology is the study of the physical evidence of humans and society over time. An objective reconstruction of past realities is based on the investigation and analysis of archaeological records in the form of soil records and artifacts.

In the Master’s degree programme the students may choose a focus in the individual archaeological disciplines.

Edu­ca­tional Sciences (Master)

The goal of the Master’s Degree Programme in Educational Sciences is to deepen the students’ knowledge in the field of education sciences. 

Each student may choose to focus theoretically, methodologically and practically on a specific topic within education sciences, for example general education science, gender studies, psychoanalysis, migration studies, etc.

Euro­pean Eth­nol­ogy (Master)

The students of this Master’s degree programme gain competencies in the cultural analysis of life styles, every day life practices and complex socio-cultural processes.

They also learn to understand the historical dimensions of contemporary phenomena and discourses, to deconstruct popular identity concepts and their instrumentalisation in media and politics and to present academic findings to the broader public.

Gen­der, Cul­ture and So­cial Change (Master)

The interfaculty Master's programme Gender, Culture and Social Change analyses gender as a hierarchising structural category in close connection with the categories of ethnicity and class in post-national and -colonial constellations. Students acquire interdisciplinary academic and career-oriented competences.

Ger­man Philol­ogy (Master)

The students of this Masters’s degree programme acquire in-depth theoretical and methodological knowledge in the field of German philology and may focus on specific areas in this field of study. They are able to develop and follow innovative theoretical concepts and research approaches by applying their comprehensive specialised knowledge.
