Welcome to the Faculty of Language, Literature and Culture

The faculty encompasses a broad spectrum of fields, ranging from American Studies to Translation Studies. It is one of the largest faculties at the University of Innsbruck, with approx. 250 employees and 5,000 students in 46 academic programs.

"Our key competences are in two closely related fields"

  • Languages, literature, media and culture in the areas English and American Studies, German Studies, Classical Philology, Romance Studies and Slavonic Studies.

  • The principles, points of contact and interdependencies of these fields: Linguistics, Translation Studies and Comparative Literature

An essential part of the mission of the Faculty of Language, Literature and Culture is to pursue a balanced approach to:

  • Basic and applied research (e.g. in specialized and teacher training programs)

  • The University and the general public (e.g. in regional centers, the research institute Brenner-Archiv (Brenner Archives), and the literary organization Literaturhaus am Inn)

  • Regional connection and participation in the international scientific community
