Welcome to the Faculty of Language, Literature and Culture!

The Faculty comprises a wide spectrum of disciplines from American Studies to Translation Studies. It is one of the biggest faculties at the University of Innsbruck.

Our core competences come from two closely related fields of study:

• the individual languages, literatures, media and cultures in the fields of English and American Studies, German Philology, Latin and Greek Studies, Roman Studies and Slavonic Studies
• their basics, contacts and interactions: Linguistics, Translation Studies, and Comparative Literature.

A substantial part of the Faculty of Language, Literature and Culture is communication and interaction:

• between basics and applied science (e.g. the relation between the field and teacher training)
• between the University and the public (e.g.  in country-specific research centres and the research institute Brenner-Archiv as well as the Literaturhaus am Inn)
• between regional anchoring and integration in the internationale scientific community.

Poe­tik-Vor­le­sung 2026 mit Elke Laz­nia

Unter dem Titel „Über die Brechung des Lichts (im Wasser)“ gab die Schriftstellerin Elke Laznia im Literaturhaus am Inn Einblicke in ihr Schreiben. Die Veranstaltung wurde in Kooperation mit dem Institut für Germanistik und dem Forschungsinstitut Brenner-Archiv organisiert.

Öl, Macht und Geo­po­li­tik

Vom 14. bis 17. April fand an der ÖAW in Wien und am Generalkonsulat der Republik Österreich in Krakau eine internationale Tagung zu historischen, kulturellen und politischen Dimensionen der Erdölförderung in Galizien und darüber hinaus statt. Die Konferenz des Center of Excellence „EurAsian Transformations“ wurde von Christine Frank und Ulrike Tanzer vom Forschungsinstitut Brenner-Archiv konzipiert.

Spie­len als Zukunft der Uni­ver­si­tät

Wie kann Spielen neue Formen des Wissens und des sozialen Zusammenlebens hervorbringen? Zu dieser Frage referierte Prof. Dr. Miguel Sicart bei seinem Besuch an der Universität Innsbruck auf Einladung der Forschungsgruppe Game Studies in Kooperation mit der Philologisch-Kulturwissenschaftlichen Fakultät.

Inter­na­ti­o­nale Tagung zur kore­a­ni­schen Lin­guis­tik an der Uni

Die Universität Innsbruck veranstaltete am 1. und 2. Mai 2026 die „11th Biennial Conference of the European Association for Korean Language Education“. Rund 160 Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler aus aller Welt kamen erstmals im deutschsprachigen Raum zusammen, um aktuelle Themen der koreanischen Linguistik, Kultur und Koreanistik zu diskutieren.
