1. Research mission and philosophy
Our mission is to contribute to the understanding of microorganisms and their roles in ecosystems as well as in industrial applications. We are a team of research groups of the areas Mycology, Soil Microbiology and Physiology as well as Microbial Resource Management. Our ambitious professors and group leaders rely on classical as well as most recent microbiological and molecular techniques and are eager to explore new habitats.
2. Why should I join?
Located in a place where other are making their holidays, the thriving City of Innsbruck with 150.000 inhabitants and 30.000 students is offering great research facilities and great options for the leisure times.
Our experienced professors and young researchers will support you at all stages of your PhD, in the lab, with writing and submitting scientific publications. A PhD candidate will typically deliver a cumulative dissertation comprised of three papers as first author in international, peer-reviewed journals.
3. Positions are rare but motivation makes the impossible possible
Clearly, research positions are rare for young researchers, and it is only few that are being publicly announced, e.g. by our PhD program ‘Biointeractions from basics to application (Bioapp)’. However, we strongly encourage excellent candidates to look for external funding as shown but not limited to the options below. We will assist you to develop a joint research project and to apply for your own grant. A personal grant from your own country gives you additional independence. Please indicate in your application for which stipends you would be eligible to apply and what would be the next deadline of application.
