Ausmaß: 20 Stunden/Woche im ersten Jahr, ab dem zweiten Jahr erfolgt eine Aufstockung des Beschäftigungsausmaßes auf 30 Stunden/Woche (Vorlage der Dissertationsvereinbarung)

Das Projekt untersucht psycholinguistische Aspekte des Erwerbs des turn-takings bei L2 Lerner*innen des Englischen im österreichischen Sekundarschulkontext sowie Fragen des Assessments. Im Rahmen des Projekts werden Audio-, Video- und Eyetracking-Daten von Schüler*innen verschiedener Spracherwerbsstufen beim Bearbeiten kommunikativer Aufgaben in ihrer L1 Deutsch und L2 Englisch erhoben. Die Datenanalyse fokussiert u.a. auf die Vorhersagefähigkeit in der L2, den Einfluss der L1 auf die L2-Flüssigkeit, als auch die Einschätzung von der interaktionalen Flüssigkeit durch Rater*innen. Eine PhD Stelle befasst sich primär mit den psycholinguistischen Aspekten des Projekts, der Schwerpunkt der zweiten Stelle liegt im Bereich des Assessments.

Hauptaufgaben:

  • Mitarbeit am Forschungsprojekt “ATLAS – Analyzing turn-taking in L2 acquisition and assessment“
  • Dissertation im Rahmen des Projektes, Vortrags- und Publikationstätigkeit

Erforderliche Qualifikation:

  • Abgeschlossenes Lehramtsstudium (Diplom/Master) in Englisch oder Abschluss eines Studiums in angewandter Sprachwissenschaft oder Psycholinguistik;
  • Deutschkenntnisse, so nicht L1: C1 gemäß GeR;
  • Englischkenntnisse: C1 gemäß GeR;
  • kreative Problemlösefähigkeit, Teamfähigkeit, pädagogisch-didaktische Fähigkeiten;
  • sehr gute IT-Kenntnisse;
  • Kenntnisse von Forschungsansätzen und Untersuchungsinstrumenten der Fremdsprachendidaktik bzw. angewandten Sprachwissenschaft oder Psycholinguistik;

Erwünscht:

  • Sprachendidaktische, sprachwissenschaftliche oder psycholinguistische Diplom/Masterarbeit;
  • facheinschlägige Auslandserfahrungen;
  • Grundkenntnisse in quantitativer Forschungsmethodik.

Working hours: 20 hours/week in the first year; 30 hours/week from the second year (upon submission of the doctoral thesis agreement)

The project investigates psycholinguistic aspects of the acquisition of turn-taking by L2 learners of English in the Austrian secondary school context, as well as issues of assessment. The project will collect audio, video, and eye-tracking data from learners at different proficiency levels as they complete communicative tasks in their L1 German and L2 English. Data analysis will focus, among other things, on the learners‘ predictive abilities in their L2, the influence of the L1 on L2 fluency, and raters’ assessments of interactional fluency. One PhD position primarily addresses the psycholinguistic aspects of the project; the second position focuses on issues related to assessment.

Main responsibilities:

  • Participation in the research project “ATLAS – Analyzing turn-taking in L2 acquisition and assessment”
  • Dissertation within the project; conference presentations and publications

Required qualifications:

  • Completed teacher education degree (Diploma/Master) in English, or a degree in applied linguistics or psycholinguistics
  • German proficiency, if not L1: C1 according to the CEFR
  • English proficiency: C1 according to the CEFR
  • Creative problem-solving ability, ability to work in a team, pedagogical skills
  • Very good IT skills
  • Knowledge of research methods and instruments in foreign language education, applied linguistics or psycholinguistics

Preferred:

  • Master’s/Diploma thesis in language education, linguistics, or psycholinguistics
  • Relevant international experience
  • Basic knowledge of quantitative research methodology
