From the early 21st century to today, the world has been rapidly transitioning into a multicultural and multilingual society like never before. Cross-border human exchanges and the expansion of digital networks have made interactions between different languages and cultures a part of everyday life. This transformation presents both unprecedented challenges and opportunities for the field of education and language teaching at large.
Within this flow of change, Korean language education has also been seeking new horizons. Its role and meaning are being redefined — no longer merely a tool for language acquisition, but increasingly a medium for identity formation, intercultural communication, and social integration.
The volume "Korean as a Second Language in Plurilingual und Multicultural Societies" contains academically high-quality and well-developed papers on the theme "The Role and Direction of Korean Language Education in a Multilingual and Multicultural Society", in response to the demands of the present era.
