1. Overview
In order to support the development of talented female scientists at the beginning of their career, the Rectorate of the University of Innsbruck has established a mentoring program for young female scientists.
The program is designed for the purpose of personal development and offers the possibility to actively deal with the topic of career development in science for one year. Among other things, career paths are pointed out and discussed, additional training needs are identified, experiences are exchanged or publication and third-party funding strategies can be developed. In general, a space should to be created in which the mentees can exchange views on various topics with the mentors and the other mentees.
The aim of the program is thus to prepare and consciously shape careers in research and create the prerequisites for successful professional developments in science. Participation in this program is intended to lead to an active, target-oriented approach to the topic of "my career in science", but as such has no direct influence on one's employment status at the University of Innsbruck.
The mentors are selected by the Vice Rector for Research. At least two groups are supervised in tandem: natural sciences/technology and humanities, social and cultural sciences.
Applicants are employed by the university and are already in an advanced stage of their dissertation or are early postdocs.
2. Content of the program
We offer an introductory event every cycle, in which both the mentors and the mentees prepare for the joint work. Based on this, the mentees continue to work in peer groups on a monthly basis. Every three months, the respective mentor tandem accompanies the meeting of the mentees. The program lasts one year.
Please note that although the introductory meeting provides assistance in structuring the mentoring year, the content is to be worked out by the mentees and mentors themselves.
3. Information about the current invitation to the mentoring program 2023/2024
In the summer semester 2024, the mentoring program for young female scientists at the University of Innsbruck will start for the eighth time. Applicants should be employed by the University of Innsbruck for the entire duration of the program (i.e. until at least April 30th, 2025, whereby a deviation from this date is possible in exeptional cases) and are already in an advanced stage of their dissertation or are early postdocs.
A selection will be made among the applicants for the available 15 places.
