Institute of Geology
The Institute of Geology at the University of Innsbruck combines multidisciplinary research and teaching with field-based geoscience and analytical laboratory research. Our main research fields include (a) structural history of Alpine orogens, bridged via (b) regional geology and sedimentology to (c) reconstruction of Quaternary palaeoenvironmental changes.
Aside of basic research, we maintain a lively collaboration with non-university institutions and enterprises in applied geology. Our curricula are designed to integrate classic field geology with lab methods, use of electronic equipment and geoscientific software.
The institute is part of the University research field 'Alpine Space-Man Environment' and, more specifically, of the research centers 'Geogene dynamics-Geogene materials' and 'Climate and Cryosphere'.
