University of Innsbruck

Department of Geology

The Department of Geology at the University of Innsbruck combines multidisciplinary research and teaching with field-based geoscience and analytical laboratory research.

Our three main research fields are

  • Quaternary geology and palaeoclimate research
  • Sedimentology and limnogeology
  • Structural geology and tectonics

Aside of basic research, we maintain lively collaborations with a range of other academic institutions and enterprises in applied geology. Our curricula are designed to integrate classic field geology with laboratory methods. The institute is part of the University Research Area 'Alpine Space - Man and Environment' and, more specifically, of the Research Centres 'Geogene Dynamics - Geomaterials' as well as 'Climate - Cryosphere and Atmosphere'.
