Open Access publishing in Thieme journals

Austrian Science Fund-articles: informations below

Since January 2021, a new offer allows university members with active employment contracts or students of the University of Innsbruck and the Medical University of Innsbruck to publish open access free of charge with Thieme.
Members of both universities can publish open access free of charge in about 70 hybrid journals of Thieme and have also access to the publisher’s scientific journals.

In addition, authors receive a 25% discount on the APC for publications in Thieme gold open access journals. This discount is also granted for decentralised billing.

Which journals can researchers of the universities publish in?

You can publish open access in about 70 Thieme journals. A title list is available here.

Who can publish open access?

Eligible are authors, who

  • are corresponding authors of the articles
  • are university members with active employment contracts or students of the University of Innsbruck or the Medical University of Innsbruck
  • use their institutional email address in the process of submission
  • whose article was accepted in a Thieme journal
  • are publishing an article of the type original research article or review article

ATTENTION: It is not permitted to retrospectively change the corresponding author after peer review.

Procedure/Verification Process:

Please indicate your affiliation to the University of Innsbruck or the Medical University of Innsbruck when submitting the article. The verification of authors' affiliation with universities is based on the indication of the institution and the use of the institutional email domain, Ringgold or ORCID.

To complete the open access "ordering process", you need to register once with RightsLink (CCC Manager). You can use the registration details for any further open access publication.

The affiliation is verified by Thieme and the university/university library. The article is published with a Creative Commons licence.

FWF articles in this agreement [valid from 2024]:

Articles from FWF-funded projects published in journals that are part of this agreement can be published open access free of charge until the end of 2027 at the latest.

Please note that the criteria listed above must be met. In addition, the following FWF requirements must be complied with:

  • the article must be published with a CC BY licence
  • the acknowledgement must contain the following text:
