OA publishing in Springer journals

Austrian Science Fund-articles: informations below

Since 2016, members with active employment contracts or students of the University of Innsbruck and the Medical University of Innsbruck can publish open access free of charge in around 1,600 Springer hybrid journals and have access to around 2,000 scientific papers.

Which journals can scientists of the universities publish in?

You can publish open access in the 1,600 Springer journals that offer the open choice option. You can find a list of open choice journals here.

Who can publish open access?

Eligible are authors, who

  • are corresponding authors of the articles
  • are university members with active employment contracts or students of the University of Innsbruck or the Medical University of Innsbruck
  • whose articles were accepted by a journal that supports open choice
  • are publishing an OriginalPaper, ReviewPaper, BriefCommunication or Continuing Education article

ATTENTION: It is not permitted to retrospectively change the corresponding author.

Procedure/Verification Process:

After an article is accepted, the corresponding author is asked to indicate his/her affiliation with the University of Innsbruck or the Medical University of Innsbruck and agree to the open access conditions.
The affiliation is verified by the university/University Library and Springer (e.g. via email address or IP address). As corresponding author, please use your institutional email address instead of your private email address.
The article is published under a Creative Commons licence (CC-BY).

FWF articles in this agreement [valid from 2024]:

Articles from FWF-funded projects published in journals that are part of this agreement can be published open access free of charge until the end of 2027 at the latest.

Please note that the criteria listed above must be met. In addition, the following FWF requirements must be complied with:

  • the article must be published with a CC BY licence
  • the acknowledgement must contain the following text:

This research was funded in whole or in part by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) [grant DOI]. For open access purposes, the author has applied a CC BY public copyright license to any author accepted manuscript version arising from this submission.

or for German-language publications:

Please make sure to enter the grant DOI instead of the project number.
