Univ.-Prof. Dr. Helmut Staubmann


Helmut Staubmann is professor for social theory and cultural sociology and since March 2013 Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Science.

After studying sociology at the University of Vienna and at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS), he habilitated in Sociology at the University of Innsbruck in the year 1994.

He holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Vienna and a postgraduate diploma from the Institute for Advanced Studies, Vienna - During 1991-92 he was a visiting scholar at the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of Maryland, College Park with an Erwin Schrödinger grant from the Austrian Science Foundation. During 1994-97 he was APART-fellow (Austrian Program for Advanced Research and Technology of the Austrian Academy of Science) at the University of Chicago, Stanford University, and the University of Pennsylvania.

He has been a visiting professor at the universities in Bolzano, Graz, Linz, and Salzburg. From August 2012 until March 2013 he was visiting fellow at the Harvard University.

From 2013 until 2015 he was President of the Austrian Sociological Association/Österreichische Gesellschaft für Soziologie.

Research Interests: International Relations, Foreign Policy Analysis, EU and US Foreign and Security Policy, Terrorism Research.

Dr. Lisa Lechner

Dr. Lisa Lechner is research coordinator for the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.

She is Assistant professor for methods and methodology in political science at the University of Innsbruck. In her research, Lisa studies international treaties, such as trade agreements, bilateral tax treaties, and environmental agreements, as well as national and international jurisdictions by dint of network- and text-analysis. Her research appeared in a number of peer-reviewed outlets, such as Review of International Political Economy, Review of International Organizations, International Interactions, and Global Environmental Policy. Beyond academic talks, Lisa Lechner held public speeches on trade. Among others she spoke at the OECD in Paris, the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung in Berlin, and the Austrian Parliament.
