Tanzer

Ulrike Tanzer is university professor of Austrian literature and head of the Research Institute Brenner-Archive at Innsbruck University where she held the office of a Vice-Rector for Research from 2017 to 2023. In 2023, Ulrike joined the supervisory board of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and became a project-part leader of the FWF Excellence Cluster EurAsia Transformations. Her research focuses on the literature of the 19th and 20th century as well as contemporary literature, concepts of happiness in literature, scholary editing, literature didactics, and reading research.


ObwexerS


Walter Obwexeris University Professor for European and International Law at the University of Innsbruck, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Chairman of the Senate. He is a member of the board of ECSA-Austria and of the Austrian Jurists' Day, a member of the "EU Advisory Board" of the Austrian Federal Government, as well as an academic advisor on EU issues for several federal ministries and state governments.


KrannerS


Ilse Kranner is a University Professor at the Institute of Botany at the University of Innsbruck. Her research group "Metabolism and Biochemistry of Plants" focuses, among other things, on the molecular mechanisms of plant stress responses in relation to climate change. She has many years of experience managing departments, and has been the FWF officer for biology from 2014 until 2025.


WesterS

Roland Wester is University Professor of Experimental Physics at the Institute of Ion Physics and Applied Physics at the University of Innsbruck. He is speaker of the PhD program Atoms, Light and Molecules and head of the research focus group Physics. From 2017 to 2021 he was Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics.


RaiserS

Michaela Ralseris a university professor at the Institute of Educational Science at the University of Innsbruck. She was Dean of the Faculty of Education for two terms - from 2013 to 2021 - and has been a member of the Senate since 2022. She is part of the Research Centre ‘Medical Humanities’ and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies (CGI). Her research interests include the theory and history of public education, the epistemologies of the subject and transnational welfare landscapes in transition


Walzl2025

Markus Walzl is one of the Scientific Directors of the FWF Special Research Area (SFB63) Credence Goods, Incentives and Behavior, and works on issues of moral responsibility in markets, sustainable investment and consumption decisions, and trust in scientific expertise. He is Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Statistics and a member of the Ethics Advisory Board of the University of Innsbruck.


KunzeS

Julia Kunze-Liebhäuser is University Professor of Materials and Electrochemistry and head of the Institute of Physical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy of the University of Innsbruck. The focus of her research group is electrochemical energy conversion and storage, with application in electrocatalysis and battery research. She is a board member of the CEST Competence Center for Electrochemical Surface Technology GmbH and a member of the board of trustees of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).


AsteS

Kathrin Aste is an Austrian architect, researcher and lecturer. Kathrin Aste studied architecture at the Leopold-Franzens University of Innsbruck, where she taught at various institutes from 2000 to 2011. From 2011 to 2015 she was a visiting professor at the University of Liechtenstein, from 2014 to 2018 she led the Geography, Landscape and City platform at the Institute of Art and Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, and in 2015 she was a visiting professor at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna. Since 2018 she has headed the unit ./studio3, which conducts research at the interface between art and architecture and develops new design approaches; currently she also directs the Institute for Experimental Architecture at the University of Innsbruck. In 2004 she founded the office astearchitecture and 2009 the office LAAC together with Frank Ludin. From 2013 to 2019 she was chairwoman of aut: architektur und tirol. 


Kapelari

Suzanne Kapelari is Professor of Didactics of Biology and Environmental Education and currently Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Education at the University of Innsbruck. Her research focusses on climate change and biodiversity education, language-sensitive science teaching and didactics in science communication. For many years she has worked as a project coordinator or partner in various European Union education initiatives and conducts research at the interface between science, school and society.


HutterS

Katja Hutteris University Professor for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Innsbruck and a Visiting Fellow at the Laboratory for Innovation Science (LISH) at Harvard University. Her current research projects focus on the changing innovation landscapes - lean startup principles, innovation labs,  networking in innovation ecosystems and artificial intelligence.


Baumgarten

Daniel Baumgarten is University Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the Institute of Mechatronics. The scientific focus of his working group is on bioelectrical and biomagnetic phenomena, from measurement and stimulation, modelling and simulation to signal processing and analysis. He is President of the Austrian Society for Biomedical Engineering and Austrian representative in the International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE). He is also one of the chairs of the technology platform Nanomedicine Austria and a member of the advisory board of the Life Science Cluster of the Standortagentur Tirol.


Buchheim

Anna Buchheim is Head of the Research Centre for Health and Prevention across the Lifespan. Her research focuses on clinical psychology, psychoanalysis, clinical attachment research, neuroscience, psychotherapy research, health psychology and prevention research. From 2020 to 2023, she was Vice Rector for Human Resources at the University of Innsbruck.

Gundula Ludwig is University Professor of Social Science Theories of Gender Relations at the University of Innsbruck and head of the research platform Interdisciplinary Gender Research Innsbruck (CGI).


RollingerS

Robert Rollinger is University Professor at the Department of Ancient History and Ancient Oriental Studies at the University of Innsbruck. He is coordinator of the research center "Ancient Worlds Studies and Archaeologies" (AWOSA) and deputy director of the doctoral college "Entangled Antiquities".


RussmannS

Uta Rußmann is (since March 1, 2022) Professor of Media and Communication Studies with a focus on democracy at the Institute for Media, Society and Communication, University of Innsbruck. She is the director of the future Doctoral College "Politics, Power, Language". Jaeger

Christoph Jägerhas been a university professor of philosophy specialising in epistemology and medieval philosophy since 2014. From 2022-2024 he was Guardini Visiting Professor at Humboldt University Berlin. He is the founder of the doctoral programme Philosophy of Religion and works on social epistemology, general epistemology, philosophy of religion, philosophy of the Middle Ages, theory of free will and theory of emotions. 

ThomasS

Thomas Karl is Professor of Atmospheric Physics at the Institute of Atmospheric and Cryospheric Sciences. His research interests include the chemical composition of the atmosphere and the interactions between the atmosphere and the Earth's surface. His focus is on trace gases and aerosols which are crucial for climate forecasts and the prediction of climate change. This is because a better understanding of the composition of the atmosphere allows climate models and air quality forecasts in weather models to be optimised.

Schmidbauer

Karolin Schmidbauris an internationally reknown architect and mentor.She studied at the Technical University in Munich and graduated in 1992.Her collaboration with COOP HIMMELB(L)AU in Vienna also began in 1992.In 1993, she moved to COOP HIMMELB(L)AU's studio in Los Angeles, California, which she managed from 2003 to 2016. From 2000 to 2003, she took over the management of another project office in Guadalajara, Mexico. Karolin Schmidbaur has been a Design Partner at COOP HIMMELB(L)AU in Vienna and Head of Research at the studio since 2009.


Stefan

Matthias Stefan  is an associate university professor at the Institute of Banking and Finance at the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Innsbruck. His research focuses on behavioural and methodological issues in the field of finance and economics.


OstendorfS

Annette Ostendorf is University Professor for Business Education at the University of Innsbruck and Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration. In her research and teaching, she deals with issues of professional business competence development, corporate educational work, vocational teacher training, and the promotion of critical thinking in university teaching.


BankS

Matthias Bank is University Professor of Banking and Finance at the University of Innsbruck, member of the Senate and Chairman of the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Business Administration. He served as Dean for the Faculty over two terms and during this time also as Dean's Speaker (2013-2021). He is also the acting chairman of the University Professors Association Innsbruck (UPVI).


Hill

Marc Hillis a university professor at the Institute of Educational Science at the University of Innsbruck. He is a faculty member of the doctoral programme ‘Dynamics of Inequality and Difference in the Age of Globalisation’ and the research centre ‘Migration & Globalisation’.


MayrS

Stefan Mayr  is University Professor of Botany and Plant Water Balance at the University of Innsbruck. He leads the research group Ecophysiology at the Institute of Botany, is spokesman of the research focus "Alpine Space" and head of various national and international research projects.

Ilmer

Paul Ilmer is a university professor at the Institute of Microbiology and heads the working group for soil microbiology and climate change. He works on the ecophysiology of anaerobic habitats and microorganisms, archaea, climate change and hospital or food hygiene. He was Dean of Studies and is currently Dean of the Faculty of Biology. 

Neuhauser

Sigrid Neuhauser has been awarded a Start prize and is university professor of microbiology. She works on the taxonomy and systematics of Phytomyxea, on the interactions of Phytomyxea and their hosts, on phytopathology and on parasites of algae. 


Moser

Simone Moser has been University Professor of Pharmacognosy at the Institute of Pharmacy at the University of Innsbruck since 2023. Her research group focuses on the discovery and characterisation of bioactive natural products. 


Huppertz

Hubert Huppertz is a university professor at the Institute of General, Inorganic and Theoretical Chemistry. His research focuses on the exploratory discovery of new compounds in the field of solid-state chemistry, with high-pressure chemistry and the synthesis of new luminescent substances being the main focus of his research. He has been Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy at the University of Innsbruck since 2013 and Dean's Spokesperson since 2021. He is also deputy chairman of the Innsbruck University Professors' Association (UPVI).

Schbatzky

Thomas Schubatzkyis an associate professor at the Institute of Didactics, Faculty of Teacher Education and at the Institute of Experimental Physics at the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics. He works on climate education and education for sustainable development in physics lessons, conducts professionalisation research with (prospective) teachers and the role of Bayesian statistics in science didactics research. 


HardersS

Matthias Harders is University Professor for Computer Graphics at the Institute of Computer Science, University of Innsbruck. He is a member of the Ethics Advisory Board of the LFU and was a long-time member of the Faculty Council of the MIP Faculty (Mathematics, Informatics and Physics). Currently he is involved in three interdisciplinary doctoral programs. He is a co-founder of the EuroHaptics Society, the IEEE Technical Committee on Haptics, and the med-tech start-up VirtaMed, among others.


FerlainoS

Francesca Ferlainois an experimental AMO physicist. She received her PhD at the University of Florence in 2004, and she is currently professor at the University of Innsbruck, and one of the Research Director at the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI, ÖAW), and in the Board of Directors of the Cluster of Excellence “Quantum Science Austria”.  Her research explores few- and many-body quantum physics using ultracold atoms and molecules, interacting via long-range forces. Recently, she focused on creating quantum gases with multielectron atoms possessing large magnetic dipole moments to access novel dipolar phenomena. Ferlaino awards includes the Grand Prix de Physique "Cécile-DeWitt Morette” from the French Academy of Science, the Erwin Schrödinger Prize, the Junior BEC Award, and three ERC grants.

Ruth Breu is full professor for computer science and head of the quality engineering group. Her research focus is on Model Engineering, Security Engineering, Requirements Engineering, Software Development Processes and Enterprise Architecture Management. She was a member of the FWF curatorium and Head of the Institute of Computer Science. Currently, she is the dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, a member of the University Council of Passau University and a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences.


HaemmererS

Dorothea Hämmereris Professor of Developmental Psychology at the University of Innsbruck. She is associated with the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at University College London as well as the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases in Magdeburg. Her research focuses on imaging methods and cognitive paradigms that can map early brain and cognitive changes in dementia.


Gerstmayr

Johannes Gerstmayr is head of the Institute of Mechatronics and spokesperson for the Computational Engineering research centre at the University of Innsbruck. His research focusses on the dynamics of multi-body systems, physics-based simulation and artificial intelligence with a focus on applications in mechatronics. Previously, he held a leading position at the Linz Centre of Mechatronics and the FFG Comet-K2 Austrian Centre of Competence in Mechatronics. He is the author of numerous open-source software packages and is involved in ASME and VDI, among others.


Wiesinger

Michaela Wiesinger is a university professor of German studies and works on the interconnectedness of literature and science in a historical context (currently: mathematics and numbers in a vernacular context; development of mathematical terminology). Her areas of interest are late medieval and early modern knowledge societies, texts of use from the late Middle Ages and early modern period, digital editions, historical narratology, interdisciplinary transfer processes as well as the proverbial and legendary poetry of the High and Late Middle Ages.

Ivo Hajnal is a linguist and graduate of the University of Zurich. He worked as University Professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin and the University of Münster. Since 2001 he has been a University Professor at the Leopold-Franzens-University of Innsbruck.


RupnowS

Dirk Rupnow is University Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Innsbruck and currently Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and History. From 2010 to 2018 he directed the Institute for Contemporary History. In the university’s anniversary year 2019, he co-edited and co-authored the new 3-volume University History. He is a consultant of the Haus der Geschichte Österreich (House of History) in Vienna and chairman of the international scientific advisory board of the Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies.

MurschetzS

Verena Murschetz is University Professor for Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law, European and International Criminal Law at the University of Innsbruck, and Deputy Head of the Institute for Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law and Criminology. Since 2015, Verena Murschetz has headed Commission 1 of the Ombudsman Board on Preventive Human Rights Monitoring for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights in Austria.
