Innovative PhD Course on "Financial Economics of Climate and Sustainability"

PhD students at the Faculty of Economics and Statistics can take a new innovative course on sustainability and climate change. The University of Innsbruck is participating in an initiative of Harvard Business School, which aims to offer a global doctoral programme to equip the next generation of decision-makers with the latest insights into the financial and economic impact of climate change and sustainable business.

The course is based on a core content presented and discussed by global experts from renowned institutions such as Harvard, Yale, NYU, Stanford and Oxford. This online core content is an integral part of a course offered locally at the University of Innsbruck by Prof. Dr J. Lawrenz, in which students further deepen, discuss and work on these topics in person.

The course "Financial Economics of Climate and Sustainability" offers a unique opportunity for students to engage with the complex challenges and opportunities associated with the transition to a sustainable economy. The focus is on how financial instruments, investments and economic decisions affect the environment and how they can be used to drive positive change.

Dean of Studies Janette Walde is delighted with the new programme: "At a time when climate change and sustainability are key issues, it is crucial that we empower students to make responsible, evidence-based decisions. This course is certainly not only intended to impart specialised knowledge, but also to address what the contribution of financial economics and economics in general can be in these key areas. Students will have the opportunity to exchange ideas not only with an expert, but with numerous experts from internationally renowned institutions and their students."

The course is offered as part of the PhD Programme Economics and Statistics.
