Forschungsbereich Alpinsportepidemiologie

Die Faszination der Bergwelt zieht jedes Jahr Millionen Tourist:innen und Einheimische in Österreichs alpinen Raum. Hier können sie ihre bevorzugten Sportaktivitäten sowohl als Freizeitaktivität als auch als Leistungssport ausüben – im Winter bspw. Skifahren, Snowboarden, Tourenskilauf oder Rodeln, im Frühling bis Herbst u.a. Bergwandern, Mountainbiken und Klettern. Allerdings steht die Ausübung von Sport und Bewegung im alpinen Raum, neben ihren positiven Auswirkungen auf die physische Gesundheit und das psychische Wohlbefinden, auch mit einem gewissen Risiko für traumatische Verletzungen bis hin zu Todesfällen in Verbindung.

Im Herzen der Alpen verortet, widmen wir uns deshalb den positiven und negativen gesundheitlichen Folgen von Bewegung und Sport im alpinen Raum. Nebst der Quantifizierung des Neuauftretens (Inzidenz) und der Verbreitung (Prävalenz) traumatischer und nicht-traumatischer Verletzungen bzw. Todesfälle im alpinen Gelände, untersuchen wir deren potenzielle Ursachen, Einflussfaktoren und Unfallmechanismen. Darauf basierend geben wir Tipps zur Entwicklung evidenzbasierter Präventionsmaßnahmen.

Unsere Mission: Die Durchführung qualitativ hochwertiger und methodisch innovativer Forschungsprojekte, deren Erkenntnisse Leser:innen und politische Entscheidungsträger:innen informieren und aufklären. So wollen wir positiv zur öffentlichen Gesundheit beitragen.
